Jon’s practice deals with a wide range of employment issues on behalf of both employers and employees, including discrimination/harassment claims, wage and hour disputes, non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality agreements, trade secret issues, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claims, and employment contract preparation/negotiation. In addition, Jon handles a variety of business litigation matters as well as Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) cases in which he has represented both broker/dealers in customer and industry disputes, and customers in investor complaints.
Jon is also a certified North Carolina Superior Court mediator and has a Martindale-Hubble, AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating.
Jon believes in a commitment to public service. He has worked as a volunteer attorney for the Council for Children’s Rights, North Carolina Legal Aid, and for Safe Alliance (working to help victims of Domestic Violence). For the past 10 years (and counting), Jon has been a Big Brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He has also served on the Administrative Board at Myers Park United Methodist Church, the Board of Advisors at the Childress Klein YMCA, and the Operating Grants Panel of the Arts & Sciences Council.
After graduating with Honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law, Jon clerked for the Hon. John C. Martin (Chief Judge, ret.) on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Prior to Law School, Jon received a Master of Divinity from Duke University and a BBA from the University of Kentucky. However, growing up in Kentucky, his basketball loyalty to the Wildcats was determined early on. He is also a proud graduate of Leadership Charlotte, Class XXVII.
Out of the office, Jon enjoys spending time with his family and 3 dogs, fishing, hiking, and gardening. He and his wife (a District Court Judge who keeps him in line) are also certified North Carolina Beekeepers.
